General Usage FAQ

This section is for the most common questions about our service.

1. Why Am I Unable To Dial Certain Access Numbers?

2. Why Did You Change The Access Number For COUNTRY X?

3. Why Do I Have To Press The Hash (#) Key?

4. How Does tele88.co.uk Make Money?

6. When Using My Mobile Phone, Do I Press The Send Key After Dialling The Destination Number?

7. Can I Make International Calls Using My Bundled Cross Network Minutes?

Back To Customer Support

1. Why Am I Unable To Dial Certain Access Numbers?

There could be three reasons for getting an unobtainable tone:

1. Other operators like Virgin Media and mobile providers will have to open up our access numbers on their networks. Some providers are extremely slow updating their networks and therefore it might take some time before our access numbers are available from all networks. To speed this up contact your service provider, tell them the access number you wish to call and ask if they can open up the telephone number.

2. You might be barred from calling 09 numbers. Please contact your service provider to have the bar lifted.

3. Some Indirect Access providers like Onetel do not allow calls to some or all of our access numbers. If you normally dial an Indirect Access code before your calls (for example 1833 for Alpha telecom) you simply omit this code and just dial the tele88.co.uk access number directly. Omitting the Indirect Access code means the tele88.co.uk call will be charged by your line provider (usually BT). If you are using a Onetel Phone.Pal you can either unplug the Phone.Pal or dial 1-2-1 to bypass your Phone.Pal. Should you have chosen the Onetel "Select" option we would advise to contact Onetel to provide you with a code to override this feature.

Back To List Of Questions

2. Why Did You Change The Access Number For COUNTRY X?

Our access numbers have a fixed rate attached to them. We always try to offer the best prices possible and if the price changes, the access number has to change as well. Every time our tele88.co.uk buying team are able to negotiate a better deal with suppliers we pass this discount on to our customers by lowering certain destinations even further!

Once the negotiated special deal comes to an end we will also have to change the access number back to its original price.

Back To List Of Questions

3. Why Do I Have To Press The Hash (#) Key?

If you press the hash (#) key after the international number, you just speed up connection as the computer will know you have finished dialling. Do not worry if you forget to press the hash (#) key, a connection will still be established.

Back To List Of Questions

Back To Customer Support

1. How Are My Calls Billed?

The charges for calls to tele88.co.uk Access Numbers will simply appear on your normal phone bill from your telephone provider (usually BT, TalkTalk or Virgin Media).

So for example, if you make a 5 minute call to Malaysia from a BT phone via access number 0844 430 0188 which is charged at 1p/min; Next time you get your BT bill you will see a call to our 0844 605 0188 number, a duration of 5 minutes and a total charge of 5 min x 1p = 5p. You will then have to include any one off connection fee that may apply by your service provider. Some providers do not charge a per connection fee but please get in touch with your service providers.

Please note that the onward international calls will not be itemised on your bill. As your normal telephone provider bills you for the calls, not tele88.co.uk, all you will be able to see is what your telephone supplier provides you with. We unfortunately cannot supply itemised call lists.

Back To List Of Questions

2. Do Prices Really Start From 1p/min?

Yes, if you were to call eligible destinations using our 0844 605 0188 access number from a BT landline. The charges will be only 1p/min. Please note that your service provider might have a miminal one off connection fee that may apply.

Back To List Of Questions

tele88.co.uk do not impose any minimum call charge. However, the service provider that you use to access our service may have.

Back To List Of Questions

4. Is VAT Included In The Price?

Prices displayed on this page are inclusive of VAT.

Back To List Of Questions

5. When Do The Call Charges Take Effect?

You will be charged from the moment you are connected to our service, not the moment the call is answered at the other end. As we want our customers to benefit from no registration, low prices and access from all networks, we unfortunately cannot change this. However, should your call not be answered, you will be informed by our operator and disconnected. Your call should not take more than two minutes.

Back To List Of Questions

6. How Much Is It To Call From My Mobile?

Some mobile operators charge differently from another. Unfortunately, tele88.co.uk has no control over their charges. Please check with your service provider for accurate calling charges.

Back To List Of Questions

7. Are There Peak And Off-Peak Rates?

All of our access numbers are charged at flat rates from all standard landlines.

For all other landline and mobile charges please check with your service provider.

Back To List Of Questions

8. I Have Been Overcharged By tele88.co.uk!

tele88.co.uk cannot overcharge you. The rates to our access numbers are set by Ofcom, the UK telecommunications regulator. It is common practise for all landline service providers to adhere to the charges set by Ofcom (please see section can I ring from my mobile? for mobile users). However, the rates you are actually charged on your bill depend on the prices your service provider has configured on their billing system. We unfortunately have no influence on their billing system, nor do we receive a penny extra of any surcharge.

We advise you to get in touch with your service provider to protest your bill. Should your service provider not settle the issue satisfactorily please contact Ofcom on 0845 456 3000

Back To List Of Questions

9. I Received My Telephone Bill And I Have Been Charged The Full International Rate For My Call. Why Is This?

If you have been billed at your normal landline provider's rate for the international destination you called and not at the tele88.co.uk rate for this destination and the international number you called and not tele88.co.uk access number appeared on your bill, this unfortunately means that the tele88.co.uk access number was not dialed before the international call was made.

When you call a destination via tele88.co.uk from a landline, your landline provider does not know the international number you are calling via tele88.co.uk, your landline provider can only show you the tele88.co.ukaccess number you have called. As the international number has appeared on your landline providers bill, this suggests that the call was made via your normal landline provider and not via tele88.co.uk. So next time you make an international call, remember to dial the tele88.co.uk access number before you dial the international telephone number.

Back To List Of Questions

10. When I Ring Someone Abroad, Will They Be Charged For The Call As Well?

Normally the person receiving a call will never be charged. However if you are abroad with your mobile (i.e. not in the country the mobile number originates from) your mobile provider will charge you for receiving calls whilst abroad also known as roaming charges. For more information please contact your respective service providers.

Back To List Of Questions

11. How Do I Pay For A Call?

When you make a call via tele88.co.uk you only pay for calling one of the tele88.co.uk access numbers. It is your service provider that will charge you - not us. So for example, if you made a 5 minute call to India from a BT phone, then next time you got your BT bill you would see a call to our 08 number, a duration of 5 minutes and their relevant charges without a separate charge by us. Simple!

The prices shown on this site are BT's charges per minute for calling the tele88.co.uk access number and you are charged per second from connection to the tele88.co.uk service. If you're not with BT you need to check with your service provider how much they will charge for calls made to the tele88.co.uk access numbers. Some mobile service providers even bundle some of the tele88.co.uk access numbers into certain free minutes packages. If you are thinking of using a tele88.co.uk access number from your mobile phone please first check the charges with your mobile service provider.

To find out the cost of calling from a UK mobile, or a non BT landline, you should confirm the rates directly with your service provider as these may vary.

Back To List Of Questions

12. How Much Will It Cost Me To Call?

The rates of all tele88.co.uk Access Numbers are inclusive of VAT (17.5%). Hence, you will only pay the advertised rate if calling from a standard BT landline with any connection fee that may apply.

Back To List Of Questions

13. Can I Receive An Itemised Bill From tele88.co.uk?

The onward international calls will not be itemised on your bill. As your normal telephone provider bills you for the calls, not tele88.co.uk, all you will be able to see is what your telephone supplier provides you with. We unfortunately cannot supply itemised call lists.
